These aspects include the National STD/AIDS Program developed by the Brazilian government, the role of international agencies (especially that of UNESCO) and the profile, practices and innovative programs of NGOs at the local level. This book highlights the strategies used in actions of the civil society and of the local institutions, their influence in the development and execution of public policies, the dialogue and relationships between the organizations, as well as strategies for resource gathering, and political, technical, and financial sustainability of the NGOs, and social control for the creation of responses to the AIDS epidemic in Brazil. The results of this study indicate that the search for solutions to the various issues related to the AIDS epidemic should be based on a continuous cooperation effort involving different spheres of the government and the organizations that make up the various movements to combat STDs/AIDS.
